This past weekend was a bit slow in comparison to the previous weeks with respect to commitments but we still have a few to address along with an update on the annual Swish & Dish Spring Warm-Up basketball tournament which is already shaping up as one of the best in the country next year. UPCOMING EVENTS
The 2010 Generation Next Tip-Off will take place November 12-14, 2010 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The tournament is open to boys 9u-14u teams (i.e. 3rd grade – 8th grade) and will feature elite and competitive divisions for grassroots travel teams and school feeder teams and programs alike. A host of teams are already committed to attend from Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. The tournament features a 3 game guarantee with all 1st and 2nd place teams in each division receiving customized individual trophies/medals and t-shirts. Speaking of upcoming events, the annual NY2LA Sports Classic is set to tip off November 26-27, 2010 with boys and girls varsity games as well as boys junior varsity and freshman games. The event is annually the top high school event to tip off the season in the state of Wisconsin with a loaded field of teams once again set to compete on both the boys and the girls sides. Highlights of this year’s event include Louisville bound McDonald’s All-American candidate 2011 SG Wayne Blackshear and Morgan Park (IL) taking on Iowa State bound 2011 G/F Elgin Cook and Head Coach Tom Diener’s Milwaukee Hamilton as well as a strong in-state contest between Wauwatosa East and Whitefish Bay Dominican featuring the likes of 2012 F Darrell Bowie, 2011 SG Jamall Taylor, 2013 G/F Anthony Carroll, and 2013 PG Duane Wilson Jr. The girl’s side features its fair share of excellent programs as well with one of the many highlights of the weekend to be a matchup between Nicolet and Beaver Dam. A new holiday tournament for middle school prospects was announced last week as the 2011 Holiday Hoopfest will tip off January 1-2, 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The inaugural tournament will feature separate elite and competitive divisions for 3rd-8th grade boys and girls. The tournament will offer up a 3 game guarantee built around pool play and single elimination playoffs with customized individual trophies/medals and t-shirts awarded to all first and 2nd place teams in each division. The tournament will offer up multi-team discounts as well. It is open to grassroots travel teams, school feeder programs/teams, etc. For more information on this upcoming event

One tournament that needs no introduction is the annual Swish & Dish Spring Warm-Up, which has grown into one of the true measuring sticks for tournaments during the spring and summer. Next year’s event will tip off April 1-3, 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with divisions for boys 9u-17u teams. This tournament annually draws many of the top teams and prospects in the country at every level and next year’s is already set to feature a ridiculously loaded field once again with teams from 12 states already confirmed to attend along with a laundry list of top 100 prospects up and down the classes as well. COMMITMENTS
This past weekend was fairly quiet on the commitment front in comparison with the previous two but here’s a couple of commitments who slipped through over the past few days that need to be acknowledged…
UNC-Charlotte grabbed a commitment from 6-4 2011 SG Terrence Williams of West Mecklenburg H.S. (NC) last week. He played with the Carolina Elite program during the grassroots travel season.
South Dakota struck on the recruiting trail over the weekend as 6-4 2011 SG Terrell Brown of Palmer H.S. (CO) gave them his verbal commitment over the weekend. Brown played with the Colorado Chaos program during the grassroots travel season.
6-9 2011 PF Cedrick Williams of Siegel H.S. (TN) verbally committed to UNC-Wilmington on Friday. He played with the Team Nashville program during the grassroots travel season.
6-6 2011 PF Fred Mattison of Westside H.S. (SC) verbally committed to Winthrop last week. He played with the South Carolina Ravens program during the grassroots travel season.
6-2 2011 SG Tekele Cotton of Whitefield Academy (GA) verbally committed to Wichita State late last week. He played with the Smyrna Stars during the grassroots travel season.
6-1 2011 PG Anthony Stitt of Butler H.S. (NC) came off the board late last week with a verbal commitment to the College of Charleston. He played with the Carolina Elite program during the grassroots travel season.
6-5 2011 SG Cameron Michael of Loveland H.S. (CO) verbally committed to Air Force last week. He played with the Colorado Chaos program during the grassroots travel season.
6-2 2011 PG Jordan Gregory of East H.S. (CO) verbally committed to Montana last week. He also played with the Colorado Chaos program during the grassroots travel season.
