The recruitment of Jake Stephens to the University of North Georgia quickly came along this month. He took his visit there earlier this month on the 4th-6th. Right following the visit, they offered the 6’4” guard of Chelsea High School (MI) and DV45. Now, a couple weeks following the visit and offer, he announced his commitment to the division two program.
“I loved it there. I loved everything about it,” Stephens said about his visit. “The coaches were very welcoming as they picked me up from the airport, showing me around, they were great. The players were also great. They treated me like I was already their teammate.”
Stephens picked North Georgia over a few offers from other division two programs. He received his first offer last summer coming from Lake Superior State. Then following a stellar grassroots season with DV45 in which he was one of the top scorers on the NY2LA Association he picked up a couple more coming from Northwood and Quincy.
With the commitment to North Georgia, Stephens feels like he has found his fit. “I really like the coaching staff. I feel my game fits their system and the players were really good to me and made me feel like I found my home.” On the court, Stephens sees his versatility being a fit for them. “I see my game fitting in there as I can use my versatility to make plays for others while opening up the floor with shooting the three and getting to the hoop and either finishing or finding my teammate. I also need to show my defensive competitiveness and really lock down on my assignment.”
