Next up from the Summer Jam coverage is part two of the stock boosters.
Malachi Johnson – 2024 – G – Greater Purpose Athletics
A true stock booster who continues to get better. One of a few skilled players on this GPA team leading them to a highly impressive 7-1 tournament. Johnson is at his best making plays off the dribble moving well with the ball in his hands to score and distribute. While a good playmaker on the attack he also shoots it well from the outside hitting four threes in one game.
Peter Kardasis – 2024 – SG – North Oakland Wolfpack
The guard was one of the better shooters of the tournament. He shot the ball well throughout the tournament but especially in a game on Saturday hitting five threes in a 19-point performance. He plays with great energy, knows how to play, and shoots it well both off the catch and dribble.
Travis Krohman – 2024 – G – Shining Stars
While he had some good games during the tournament helping his team into the gold championship game, he saved his best performance for the end. In the championship game, Krohman drilled eight threes while scoring 26 points for the title. Even with plenty of defensive attention on him, it did not matter as Krohman was hitting all his shots. Following the tournament, he received an offer from Thomas More University.
James Nowell – 2024 – G – Buckeye State Elite
A real shot maker who had multiple good scoring games including a twenty-point performance on Saturday while hitting six three leading his team to a win. Whether it was off the catch or dribble, in the mid-range or from three, Nowell has a smooth jumper with great form to hit his shots at a high percentage.
Michael Oaks – 2024 – F/C – Team Temple
A 6’10” post who continues to be highly productive for Team Temple. Even with his height, Oaks still moves well. An effective interior scorer who can get it done with some strong back to the basket moves. Also, an energetic big that really impacts the game with his tough interior defense and aggressive rebounding.
Will O’Shields – 2023 – SG – All In
The wing guard was one of the better scorers of the tournament at the 17U level with games of 16 and 22 points. He stands at 6’3” and has good length as well. While he has good handle and moves well to the basket, he excels at his shot making from the outside with a good ability to shoot it off the dribble.
Cam Reich – 2024 – SG – Indiana Ice
In his first game of the tournament, Reich was a standout with his outside shooting. The 6’2” guard has a smooth jumper with a quick release and was knocking down his shots at a very high percentage spotting up from three. As well to his shooting, he is a high energy and vocal guard that plays to his strengths well.
Marquis Smith – 2024 – SF – Indiana Ice
A very versatile and impactful wing who had multiple impressive games over the course of the tournament. Smith is a slasher that was often getting to the basket with ease and finishes above the rim with good bounce. Defensively he matched up well with multiple positions effectively being able to defend out on the perimeter as well as inside with his size, length, and quickness.
MJ Stackhouse – 2024 – F – Phenom University
I continue to see progression in the forwards game, and he played a big role in helping Phenom win the 17U platinum championship. He got off to a good start in the tournament with a 16-point game. He stands at 6’7” but plays bigger inside on both ends blocking shots and finishing strong. Stackhouse looked improved offensively with both going to the basket and consistently hitting his outside jumpers.
Jimmy Tarjan – 2024 – G/F – Mercury Elite
There are a lot of different aspects to like from the game of Tarjan. He has some size at 6’4” with some length and makes plays on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he did much of his damage hitting outside jumpers but can also handle the ball and is a good passer. Defensively, Tarjan plays with great energy matching up with multiple positions effectively.
