While there are plenty of great games in pool play to start off the Summer Jam on Thursday and Friday at Spooky Nook Champion Mill, here are five that are loaded with talent and have some intriguing matchups. There will be plenty of other great games as the tournament moves into bracket play on Friday afternoon.
2024 – Houston Superstars vs. Wisconsin Blizzard – Thursday 7pm – Court 9
This one should be a thriller in what features the defending NY2LA Association 16U champs from last year in the Blizzard up against one of the top teams from the spring with the Superstars. The Blizzard have a great deal of talent on their roster with Will Hornseth, Brady Corso, Ty Fernholz, Jon O’Neill, as well to Cody Schmitz who is now back from injury. Tk Lawson and Angel Sonnier were a dynamic duo for the Superstars over the course of the spring.
2024 – Phenom University vs. DB Pro – Friday 11am – Court 7
This game features one of the top teams from the NY2LA Association in DB Pro this spring up against Phenom of the EYBL. It also matches up two breakout guards over the past few months. Dekwon Brown of DB Pro has become a highly coveted mid-major recruit earning offers from Robert Morris, Kent State, Radford and others. They also have good depth with CJ Worsham, Fola Fayemi, Grantas Sakenis, and others. Phenom features Kon Knueppel, one of the hottest 2024 recruits in the nation, recently earning himself a Duke offer as well to having Nebarska commit Nick Janowski, Amari Mccottry, Jack Daugherty, and Sekou Konneh.
2024 – MN Comets Elite vs. MidPro Academy – Thursday 1pm – Court 5
For scholarship level college coaches looking for big men, this is a game to see. 6’9” Kyle Jorgensen was a breakout star for the Comets over the spring earning his first few division one offers. MidPro Academy has multiple available big men to see with Jaheem Webber and Hank Alvey.
2024 – Wisconsin Swing vs. Illinois Central Elite – Thursday 7pm – Court 11
An intriguing matchup with plenty of players to see. Throughout the spring, this very deep Swing team saw several players stepping up including Gavin Van Wie, Grant Manz, Brogan Finnegan, Brandon Tilley, Brock Massey, and others. ICE features one of the top 2027 players in the entire Midwest playing all the way up in Jaxson Davis as well to Davee Flowers.
2024 – REACH Legends vs. George Hill All Indy – Friday 12pm – Court 5
Plenty of firepower in this one, especially in the backcourt with 2025 guards playing up. Azavier Robinson is one of the top prospects on the NY2LA Association picking up several high major offers over the past few months. The Blackwell brothers, Markus and Moses, are one of the most dynamic guard duos on the Association showing a great ability to each take over games.
