After receiving an offer from Lake Superior State back in June, Nino Smith made his college commitment on Friday to the in-state division two program. Smith is an all-state 6’0” point guard from De La Salle High School and the Michigan Playmakers.

The commitment comes after Smith just recently took a visit north to Lake Superior State just over a week ago. “It was amazing, it truly felt like home,” Smith said about his visit.

“I loved the campus,” he first said about why he chose Lake Superior State. Adding in, “I love the people on the team, and I loved the coaches. Their culture was amazing, and it stood out to me.”

As well to the offer from Lake Superior State, Smith was also offered a scholarship by Wayne State. Additionally, he held interest from a number of programs on various levels. Smith is one of the purer point guards in Michigan’s 2023 class. With his vision, passing ability, and quickness, he has a great ability to create for his teammates.

The senior point guard wanted to make a commitment now so he could have a good season and focus on repeating as state champions. Next year, Smith looks to fit in and make an immediate impact right away when he moves onto the college level.
