While only a member of the 2025 class, Markus Blackwell had a tremendous year on the NY2LA Association while playing up an age group at the 16U level with Reach Legends. With his play, the 6’2” guard was able to earn himself first-team all-association honors.

Not only did he receive the first-team honors, but also received his first division one offer this spring. Following the April live periods, Detroit Mercy extended an offer to Blackwell. “I love the coaching staff,” the sophomore said about Detroit Mercy. “I love where it is located because I love my city.” When speaking about his visit to their campus, he said “it went great.” While Detroit is his only offer currently, Iowa State and Missouri are amongst the other schools that have shown interest in him.

Throughout the year with Reach Legends, Blackwell showed an advanced skill set. He is a complete guard that can not only run the point but also score it effectively in a variety of ways. A couple of aspects of his game he would like to improve upon however are his athleticism and pull up three-point jumper.

After having what Blackwell called a “great” season with Reach Legends, next up for him is his sophomore season at Lincoln High School (MI). The one goal he has set for the high school season is to help his team win a state championship.
