Saginaw Valley State landed a coveted recruit on Monday when Elvis Machul Jr. announced his commitment to the nearby school. Machul is a senior 6’1” guard at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan.

The commitment comes after Saginaw Valley State just offered him last month. Other schools to have offered him a scholarship were Ferris State and Muskegon Community College as well to having a long list of other colleges interested in him.

Machul’s recruitment really grew this year while playing with UTS Elite. The energetic guard has good quickness as well to strong handle to get into the defense and making plays. He is a very smart player with the ball in his hands that sees the floor well and knows where to go with it. As well to his play off the dribble, he has continued to become more of a consistent three-point shooter and is a tough on ball defender.

“I like the culture at SVSU,” Machul stated on what he likes about his future school. “With it being in Saginaw, I’ve been there to watch multiple practices. The school itself is state of the art. The coaches were great through the whole recruiting process as well. They treated me and my family as one of their own and I couldn’t thank them enough.”

The thought of staying very close to home also played a very big role in his decision. “I can’t forget to mention that staying in Saginaw and playing in front of my hometown has always been a big dream of mine. There’s truly nothing like playing in front of your hometown with the city behind you.”

Before he makes the jump to college, Machul is looking achieve something that has alluded him so far in his high school playing career, a state championship. “Through these three years on the varsity basketball team I am yet to win one so this year I’m extremely focused on winning one.”
