Opening night of the 2019 NY2LA Sports Invitational saw a few solid efforts from some talented players at various age groups. While the slate of games was limited with only night games, here’s a few that stood out during day 1 in Wisconsin…
2020 Keonte Jones – WI Premier 17U
Keonte Jones is a long athletic wing and showed off his versatility Friday for WI Premier. He has a solid handle and was able to get into the paint and finish at the rim. Jones was impressive defensively using his long arms to get steals and block shots and was active on the offensive glass creating second chance opportunities for his team.
2020 Jamari Sibley – Phenom University 17U EYBL
Jamar Sibley had a solid opening night for Phenom U scoring 23 points to help lead them to a win over a tough Kentucky Hoop Dreams team. At 6’9 Sibley is comfortable playing on the perimeter and scored 14 of his points in the 2nd half knocking down some smooth jumpers and finishing around the rim.
2021 Tyrese Hunter – Phenom University 16U EYBL
Tyrese Hunter had a big time performance Friday night for Phenom U 16s in their win over Chicago Lockdown. He thrives attacking the rim in transition and showed off his athleticism with some highlight dunks. Hunter finished with a game high 22 points and was also active defensively for Phenom.
2020 Jackson Sivills – Kentucky Hoop Dreams 17U
Jackson Sivills is a nice prospect and had a good showing for Kentucky Hoop Dreams in their opening game. A smooth 6’6 wing, Sivills knocked down shots on the perimeter and was also effective getting into the paint off the dribble. Already holding a handful of D1 offers, Sivills backed it up on the court and didn’t back down at all from a talented Phenom University team.
2022 Jackson Paveletzke – Phenom University 15U EYBL
Jackson Paveletzke was really good on opening night scoring 16 points for his team in a win. He has a smooth jumper off the catch and dribble and knocked down 4 threes. Paveletzke did a good job on defense of disrupting ball handlers and creating transition opportunities for a Phenom 15U team that is outstanding in the open court.
2021 Kobe Johnson – Phenom University 17U/16U EYBL
Playing in back to back game Friday for both the Phenom 16U and 17U squads Kobe Johnson had a couple of strong showings. He does a great job of using his length to get into passing lanes and get steals and is able to lead the break and find open teammates for easy buckets. Johnson also showed off his improving jump shot hitting a couple of key threes in the 2nd half of the 17U game to give them a boost down the stretch.
