Thursday marked the final day of the NY2LA Summer Showdown and day two of The Final Chapter. Here are some of the standouts from Thursday’s action..

2017 6’6” G Marcus Garrett – Swaghouse Elite – Garrett plays the role of a big point guard. He does a good job of moving the basketball and typically makes the right pass. He’s more of a slasher than scorer right now. Marcus must stay aggressive on both ends. When he does Garrett has high-major potential.

2019 6’9” PF Legend Stamps – Inland Empire Elite – Stamps showed Thursday that he is a high-level rebounder in the making. Legend was consistent on the glass at both ends while showing some scoring potential inside. He’ll have to become a better finisher at the rim to elevate his paint game. In addition, Stamps likes to play out near the perimeter. While he doesn’t have a consistent shot at this stage, he could develop into a stretch four down the road.

2017 6’3” G Demetrius Jacobs – All In Young and Restless – Jacobs continues his solid play on both ends this week. On Thursday, Jacob’s long ball was falling and he was getting to the rim in transition and in the half court. He is certainly capable of being the go-to scorer on this squad.

2018 6’4” G/F Aaron Gill – Grassroots Hoops – When Gill is playing up tempo and aggressive he has the capability to turn the momentum in his team’s favor. He uses his athleticism well to rebound and score in the interior. His physical and athletic abilities are a big part of his game and can quickly make an impact for Grassroots.

2017 6’2” PG PJ Pipes – IL Stars IBA – Pipes continues to lead Stars IBA as a tough scoring guard. Once Pipes decides to get to the rim, he’s quick and clever at finding the openings in the defense that lead him to the rim.

2017 6’6” SG Harold Moore – I-Cann All-Stars – Moore showed consistent outside shooting and has good positional size to play either the two or the three. Moore helps on the boards and is a willing passer who keeps the ball moving.

2018 6’9” PF Daniel Oturu – Howard Pulley – Oturu had another impressive outing, this time against the Las Vegas Prospects. Oturu plays with a good motor on both ends. He can score around the rim, including a promising post game with touch. He also rebounded well and contested and blocked shots inside.

2017 6’5” SF Doug Wallen – IL Irish Elite – Wallen plays a simple, effective and smart game. He chips in in a variety of areas. He rebounds, scores and passes well. He is a leader for this squad by the way he plays hard and keeps himself engaged.

2017 6’7” F Brandon McCombs – IL Irish Elite – McCombs joins Wallen as true blue collar glue guys for the Irish. McCombs plays hard and rebounds well at both ends. He scores well around the rim in put backs and catch and finish situations. Brandon can also shoot it in the mid-range areas.

2017 6’1” PG David Kachelries – Sports U – Kachelries proved to be an athletic scoring guard who can play at different paces. He handles the ball pretty well and can create and finish in the open floor. He’s also got plenty of bounce within his 6’1” frame.

2017 6’4” Nate Pierre-Louis – Sports U – Nate has good positional size and can play either on or off the ball. He’s a skilled slasher who can use his handle and his frame to get to the rim. While his jumper needs more work, he did show flashes of a mid and long-range jumper. Pierre-Louis has the size and athleticism to not only be effective in the half court, but he has transition skill as well. Nate connected on the game-winning drive in a 47-45 win over All-In Young & Restless.

2016 6’10” C Peace Ilegomah – Sports U – The 6’10” unsigned big man is a skilled rim protector and rim finisher. Peace has good bounce and gets off the floor quickly when attacking the rim. Offensively Peace will be an around the rim scorer (i.e.; tip dunks, catch and finish), but he’s a very capable rebounder. The combination of his length, athleticism, rebounding and shot blocking all check the boxes of a true paint presence.

2017 6’8” PF Jahsim Floyd – Sports U – Floyd was yet another standout from a talent-filled roster. Floyd is a good defensive compliment to Peace Ilegomah. Jahsim is also a shot blocker who can defend out to the perimeter. He has length and proved to be a good rebounder. The 6’8” forward also showed flashes of promise as a post player.

2017 6’2” DaShawn Mcintee – SYF Players – McIntee was impressive as a slasher and transition finisher. He played with a high motor and plenty of athleticism. DaShawn is defensively active, including blocking shots and tipping passes. Mcintee made a real impact on both ends.

2017 6’10” C Josh Carlton – Team Loaded NC – Carlton played with good hands and was effective in the post. Josh contested and blocked shots at the rim as well. Carlton did a solid job finishing inside and can play strong above the rim. Carlton has real potential as a post who can also shot it in the mid-range. Additionally, he showed he can rebound at a high clip.

2017 6’10” C Brandon Huffman – Team Loaded NC – Huffman, much like teammate Josh Carlton, is a long and skilled big. Huffman was a force at blocking shots and can cover plenty of ground away from the basket defensively. He can rebound well and plays a solid post game that includes getting above the rim. Both Carlton and Huffman combined to be a difficult duo to defend and to score against.
