The 2016 annual NY2LA Sports Spring Extravaganza returns to Minneapolis for another action-packed weekend of basketball. Featuring a number of intriguing games as part of the NY2LA Association and the open division, opening night is sure to entertain. 

Here are some the top games to watch on Friday night:

Omaha Elite vs. Wisconsin Shooters – Hopkins HS
In what might be the game of the night, two favorites in the East Division clash on opening night. Omaha Elite features a strong trio of Aguir Agau, Davon Wells-Ross, and Jay Small. The Shooters will counter with a trio of their own in Andrew Lewis, Brandon Hay, and Philip Flory. 

All-In Y&R vs. Grassroots Hoops – Hopkins HS
Some of the top stars in the event will be on display when these two South Division foes square off. All-In Young and Reckless’ backcourt duo of Demarius Jacobs and Teyvion Kirk locks down opponents and controls the tempo with their up-tempo style. They’ll try and slow down touted 2020 guard Jalen Suggs and unsigned senior Steffon Mitchell, who holds nearly 20 Division 1 offers. 

Mercury Elite Thomas vs. Wisconsin Swing – Hopkins HS
Two South Division favorites square off on Friday. The Wisconsin Swing, led by their 1-2 punch of Chris Knight and Ryan Krueger each hold multiple Division 1 offers. Rising point guard Tai Bibbs will also be on display for Mercury Elite in a talent-filled matchup that’s sure to live up to the hype.

WI Playground Elite vs. New Mexico Force – Hopkins HS
Arguably the top prospect in attendance, Terrence Lewis leads Playground Elite into an intriguing open night matchup. After a great run in the Swish N’ Dish two weekends ago, the Milwaukee-based program will test their metal against New Mexico Force, who come into the association as one of the teams to beat as well. 

SYF Players vs. Martin Bros. – Hopkins HS
Martin Bros. is coming off an impressive run at the Swish N’ Dish. Led by some quality talent in the state of Iowa, including Malik Paker and Sam Allen, Martin Bros. gets a good test on opening night from the SYF Players. They’ll be tasked by trying to slow down hot-shooting guard Kyle Hart and company. 

Chicago Lockdown vs. REACH Legends – Hopkins HS
Versatile forward Connor Niego leads Chicago Lockdown into a high quality matchup on opening night. Expected to rise fast over the next few months, Niego will get a good test from the REACH Legends in this North Division battle. He’ll take the floor with Drequan Bell, who also have the attention of numerous coaches this weekend. 

Illinois Celtics/Hoopers vs. Missouri Hustle – Hopkins HS
Expect the Division 1 coaches to be seated at this one. The Celtics feature a 1-2 punch of Brandon Lawani Nana Akenten, both of which hold Division 1 scholarship opportunities. Intriguing wing Xavier Womack will also be playing for some scholarship offers of his own in this West Division matchup. 

All-In Y&R vs. SYF Players – Eden Prairie HS

The athletes will be on full display in this one. SYF Players have an explosive guard combo of Chase Adams and Zion Young that’s sure to turn heads this weekend. They’ll be matched up with Eric Blair of All-In Y&R, who can certainly hold his own against some of the top guards in the association. 

Minnesota Comets vs. Yanders Law – Eden Prairie HS
One of the biggest sleepers in the Midwest, explosive scorer Monty Johal takes the floor for Yanders Law. Holding multiple Division 1 offers, Johal will look to increase his list this weekend. Always loaded with under the radar talent, the Minnesota Comets will try and make sure it’s their unit who steals the show Friday night. 

REACH Legends vs. Wisconsin Swing – Eden Prairie HS
Some intriguing guards square off in this crossover game. Anthony Roberts, Jeremiah Parrish, and Ron Hill of REACH Legends meet arguably the top 1-2 punch at the 16U level in Mason Steffen and Mitch Listau of the Wisconsin Swing. 

NESYB vs. SW Minnesota Stars – Hopkins HS

If you haven’t heard of NESYB guard Storm Murphy by now, it’s time you find out. One of the most exciting under the radar guards out there, Murphy has put up big numbers against quality teams for the past couple of seasons. An always tough and physical SW Minnesota Stars lineup will look to put a stop to that on opening night. 

Howard Pulley (2018) vs. Ray Allen Select – Hopkins HS
The youngsters of Howard Pulley’s EYBL 16U squad will step up to the 17U division. 2018 guard Ryan Larson is one of the best kept secrets in the Midwest and put on quite a show in this even last season. They’ll get Ray Allen Select, featuring some under the radar talent, including unsigned senior Taurus Adams, who’s boosted his stock in a big way as of late. 

Team KC vs. MN Suns Johnson – Hopkins HS
A talented group from Kansas City led by Matthew Pile heads to the Spring Extravaganza looking to continue to elevate the program and their prospects.  Opening night the lock up with a solid group from the Minnesota Suns in what should be a good one.
