The high school season is off and running and across the country the 2022 and 2023 classes are main priorities for college coaching staffs at all levels.  As always though the future presents a new batch of highly talented prospects and this year’s 2025 freshman class is no exceptions with a number of potential blue chip talents hitting the court hungry to take their seat at the national table.  Here’s a quick look at five to know…

MELVIN BELL – 6’2 – G – ST. RITA (ILLINOIS)
A talented and gifted guard that can play either position in the backcourt, Bell has the physical tools, the skill package, and the instincts to develop into a high major talent when it’s all said and done.  One of the must watch talents in Illinois over the next four years.

BRYCE HEARD – 6’5 – G – KENWOOD ACADEMY (ILLINOIS)
Equipped with elite physical tools and advanced skill, Heard passes the look test on the hardwood and he pairs that with dominant performances.  One of the premiere 2025 prospects in the country big picture wise, Heard is another high major impact talent on the rise in Illinois.

JACK MCCAFFERY – 6’8 – F – IOWA CITY WEST (IOWA)
The son of the current Iowa Head Coach, Jack is an elite shooter with advanced skill and instincts that he pairs with size and potential.  He already checks a number of boxes when it comes to evaluating young talent and he has the clay to mold into a special talent when it’s all said and done.

TREY MCKENNEY JR – 6’5 – G/F – ORCHARD LAKE ST. MARY’S (MICHIGAN)
A tough physical talent that brings versatility, tenacity, skill, and dominance to the hardwood on both ends.  He can score at each level, he can defend multiple positions, and he’s advanced in terms of his awareness and instincts.  One of the premiere 2025 prospects in the country both physically and impact wise, Trey is a must watch talent the next four years.

XZAVION MITCHELL – 6’7 – F – OSHKOSH NORTH (WISCONSIN)
Already regarded by many as a premiere national talent, Mitchell has all the physical tools and skills to develop into a high major national impact talent.  He can score at each level, he has the size and versatility to play multiple positions, etc.  One to watch closely in a loaded 2025 class in Wisconsin.
