Northern Michigan University and head coach Matt Majkrzak continued to add to their talented 2021 recruitment class as they added a commitment from Sam Privet. Privet announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Tuesday. The senior is a 6’8” power forward of Caledonia High School (MN) and plays with the Wisconsin Playmakers.

The commitment comes just shortly after Privet visited the campus on Michigan’s upper peninsula earlier this month. On the visit, the big man was offered his scholarship. “The visit was great. I got to get to know the coaches and got a taste of life in Marquette, Michigan. Got to see the whole school and learn about the school and program,” Privet commented on his visit.

When asked why he chose Northern Michigan, Privet mentioned “I really like the coaching staff at NMU a lot and the family they have there. It’s a really nice school and they have great facilities.”

Privet picked Northern Michigan over his other offers from University of Jamestown and Waldorf University. “I decided to commit now because I knew it was time and I think it’s the right fit for me.” He also added “I knew it was the right fit for me and I feel like NMU will help me develop and reach my goals.”

Privet joins a recruitment class that already includes point guard Brian Parzych and forward Dylan Kuehl, both out of Wisconsin. Northern Michigan finished this past season with a 13-17 record and were able to advance to the semifinals of the GLIAC tournament.
