This season Brooks Barnhizer has been able to pick up right where he left off; as one of the top 2021 players in all of Indiana. On the season, he is averaging a staggering 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists per game to help lead Lafayette Jeff High School to a 17-2 record so far.

With Barnhizer’s as well as Lafayette Jeff’s success this season, he has been able to catch the attention of plenty of college coaches. In the last several weeks he has been able to land himself a major pair of college scholarship offers, including his first from a Big 10 school. In late December, Northwestern offered him and that was followed up with Xavier offering him last week. “It was awesome, it’s kind of cool seeing another great school of that caliber recruiting you,” he mentioned when talking about how it felt receiving the offer from Northwestern.

The other schools to have extended the 6’6” wing an offer are Ball State, Butler, Detroit-Mercy, Evansville, and Western Kentucky. While he has a long list of suitors, Barnhizer stated that he currently none of the school’s standout from one another.

When talking about what Barnhizer is looking for in a college, much of his focus is off of the basketball court. “I’m just looking for the right fit and an opportunity to get a great education and set myself up for life after ball.”

At Lafayette Jeff, he is not the only Barnhizer that is a part of the 17-2 success, as there is a big family connection. His dad is the head coach of the team, while his brother Braxton, is a senior guard on the team. When asked how it is to play for his dad and alongside his brother, Barnhizer mentioned “I love it. It’s been the best experience of my life.”
