One of the more under the radar prospects to college coaches in Illinois is Tye Banks. Banks is a 6’3” sophomore shooting guard at Springfield Lanphier High School and plays with the Meanstreets program.

While he has yet to attract the attention of many college coaches so far, it’s only a matter of time with all of Banks abilities. While just a sophomore, Banks already has a good ability to score, rebound, and distribute the basketball at a high level. The athletic guard has nice touch on his jumper from the mid-range as well as out on the perimeter. Plus, Banks has a nice ability to take the ball strong to the basket. With his toughness and athleticism, he rebounds the ball very well for a guard.

With all his skills, Banks is putting up a stat stuffing 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game as just a sophomore. However, there is one part of his game Banks would like to improve upon, “I need to work on my defense,” Banks said.  “Kyle Kuzma, because he scores on all three levels and is always active,” Banks mentioned on if there any players he models his own game after.

So far on the season, Banks and Springfield Lanphier are sitting at a 10-4 record. When talking about his current high school season, Banks stated “season is going great, we are all family and we are winning. Though the sophomore already has his eyes set on some much bigger things for Lanphier this year. “My goals for my season is to win state and not lose any more games.”

Even though he is only a sophomore, if Banks continues his impressive play this season don’t expect him to be hidden much longer to college coaches.
