As the 2018 class heads down the final stretch related to high profile recruits and their commitments with the late signing period on the horizon, a talented group of elite 2019 prospects continue to see their recruiting trails fill up as they become hot commodities and priorities across the country. One such talent emerging as a bona fide top 50 prospect nationally in the class is Charles Smith IV of La Lumiere in Indiana.
A 6-5 180 plus pound native of Houston, Smith wrapped the summer as one of the more intriguing talents in the 2019 class and after a Co-MVP performance in October at the annual NY2LA Sports Futures Camp and some stellar play this high school season, the explosively athletic smooth wing has elevated into elite national status with his name popping up on most legitimate national boards rankings wise.
Smith is a gifted smooth athletic wing that can make the game look easy at times while slashing to the rim for buckets, hitting the mid-range jumper, or knocking down the trey ball. Still continuing to evolve on the perimeter, Smith has plus length that he pairs with his bounce and instincts to make for a difficult cover for opposing guards. His transition finishing skills are elite in some respects and his ability to elevate above and finish through traffic is also a valuable asset. He can score from every level but most importantly he’s far from a finished product making him one of the most intriguing elite talents on the board in the 2019 class nationally and schools are in hot pursuit.
Connecticut offered Smith most recently and the Huskies have joined Baylor, Tulsa, N.C. State, Washington State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma, SMU, Tulane, California, UNLV, DePaul, USC, Colorado, and Florida as schools with offers already on the table. With his best basketball in front of him Charles Smith IV is a name to track and monitor closely as one of the fast rising prospects in the 2019 class nationally.
